The nation of Israel has endured a constant onslaught since it was created by a UN resolution in 1948. Their capital is Jerusalem and has been for years, they are to my knowledge the only nation that has had their selected capital not recognized by other nations. Israel is the ONLY Jewish state in the world, and why can’t they set there own rules for who is a citizen? I find the hypocrisy of the world toward Israel and their ability to make normal decisions about their own sovereignty is reprehensible and needs to change, Trump did change something, he recognized Israel’s right to select it’s own capital. The two state solution will never work until the Palestinians are willing to recognize Israels right to exist! There are a few who don’t believe in a two state solution and think a single secular democratic state is the only solution. The secular democratic state is nothing more than the elimination of a Jewish state and the Palestinian’s cherished main goal!
I do not understand why there is such a blind spot in most people that seems unwilling to recognize reality when it comes to Israel. There is a cliche that bears repeating: If Israel laid down it’s arms they would be destroyed, If the Arabs laid down their arms there would be peace! There is one other thing that must be mentioned, How can there be peace in the Middle East if as a matter of policy the Palestinian Authority does not yet recognize Israel’s right to exist! Until they are willing to recognize Israel’s right to exist there can be no peace. Until people are willing, like President Trump Wednesday, to recognize reality, there won’t be a long lasting peace in the Middle East. Meanwhile, my Granddaughter needs to remember the correct capital of Israel, Jerusalem!
This post started as a response to a question someone else had raised and I felt it deserved some expanding and further discussion. You can read that and an excellent discussion on what is happening to the liturgy here. The author of the question I was responding to said this: “At any rate, something has changed. “Maybe it is just because everyone is contracepting and children seem much more rare than before.”
Modern society, and we Catholics are included with that, have stopped considering children as a blessing and the medical community seems to consider pregnancy a disease to be dealt with and “cured” or eliminated so that other lives can continue uninterrupted. I wonder how many more people would be in the pews if contraceptive use was not as rampant as it is in the church today. It has been written there would be a substantial number more children and adults in the pews as well as vocations in the Convents and Carmels if this was the case.
It used to be very rare to see an only child, now it is commonplace. Would there be as much of a vocations problem in the church today if every family had three or four kids on average instead of 2 or even one? I was discerning a call to the priesthood when I was younger and was amazed at the overall attitude I encountered, many people when they heard told me I would be wasting my life and shouldn’t do it. I lived in a small parish and news traveled fast. When did this start happening? In my case it was the late seventies and early eighties’s. Do a large percentage of the people in parishes feel that way?
I submit they do and that is precisely because there are fewer children and service to the church is not considered as important due to disobedience on life issues. This means that service to the church is not considered as a gift but a burden to be avoided as a waste of life, which in a bizarre way your life is considered more important in today’s society but only in terms of you and not in terms of being open to new life or a vocation. We are much less aware of what a gift to ourselves as well as a gift to God a life of service to the Church can be instead of a burden, are we really being that selfish? Can we change that, and how? Is it possible that The Holy Father, Pope Paul VI was really more prophetic that he is usually given credit for? These are questions that we all need to answer.
This is a fantastic book and not only well written and emotionally challenging but creates an awe inspiring picture of two men who are shining examples of what it means to be both top officers and compassionate human beings. I wish I was half the man these two young men were starting to become. The book will be a excellent addition to anyone’s library.
I was truly awed by the stories of the two men and all they accomplished in their far too short lives. They both were described as having incredible work ethics and morals as well as incredible drive to succeed as Military officers. They were credits to the traditions of the U.S. military and both officers I would have followed just about anywhere. The beginnings of the Travis Manion Foundation are also covered in the book, which seems to be a wonderful legacy of two young men who were gone far too young.
People need to let go of this psychotic need to destroy President Trump, I understand they are driven into a frenzy because Hillary didn’t win the Presidency but the level of vitriol that he has been subjected to is unreasonable. The way that people and organizations have worked to obstruct his every move and declare his every statement or action as Presidential overreach or obstruction and even treason is disgusting. I am deeply upset and angry, but not at the President. I am angry at people who seem to put destroying this Presidency ahead of what is best for the country.
I firmly believe that he is trying to his best to fulfill the office of President and would do a reasonable job if given the opportunity. That Congress isn’t passing legislation on the agenda that he campaigned upon I am sure is cause for celebration in the Democratic Caucus. That he may never have that opportunity is a given, this gives rise to what is the far greater problem in all this disruption, the damage to the country. I am deeply concerned about the damage being done to not only the presidency, but the free press and Congress and the confidence in all three as well as the country as a whole. The destruction of these institutions and the confidence in them can be laid upon the shoulders of both political parties and leftist elements of society.
The politicians on both sides of the aisle have worked to disable and disrupt this president almost from the day he was elected, people such as Senator John McCain and Maxine Waters being two examples. Senator McCain has often spoken in ways that kept the focus on the most negative and damaging viewpoints and information leaking from the halls of government. Representative Waters is well-known for having called for the impeachment of the President before he even took office and her drumbeat for impeachment has only grown louder over the latest supposed misdeed.
Which brings me to the third group that needs to be singled out, the hard leftist rioters, they should be charged with at least sedition and if the violence gets to the point that there is constant and severe property damage and injury or even loss of life it be considered making war on the United States and the rioters be charged with treason. You will notice I said rioters and not protestors. Treating protestors harshly is wrong and a violation of the First Amendment and that would be inexcusable. I do not want to see legitimate protestors silenced anymore than I want legitimate questions or debate silenced, but much of what is being done is corrosive to the political process and to the country. Corrosion will damage steel underpinnings and I am afraid of what the corrosive atmosphere is doing to the underpinnings of the country. I can only ask that you join me and pray for the country.
God Bless The United States Of America.
This blog will discuss many things, all from a conservative as in non-liberal perspective. I am a firm supporter of the Second Amendment and will discuss quite a few of the attacks on the second and my opinion of many of the progressive nanny staters that launch them. Stay tuned to this space and hopefully be entertained by what you read here. If you are entertained let me know. If you disagree you can also let me know, but don’t expect that you can get me to change my mind or what I say to accommodate your feelings
